One ticket to the aquarium. The visit takes about an hour and a half at a normal pace.

It is entirely indoors and air-conditioned, which makes it one of the better plans for the middle of a Seville summer day.

The deep tank is at the end of the route, so there is no need to rush the first rooms to get to it.

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the activity.

The aquarium

The first voyage around the world, told in thirty-five tanks

The Seville aquarium is organised around the route of Magellan and Elcano, who set out from this river in 1519 and whose surviving ship came back three years later having gone all the way round. Each section is one of the ecosystems that expedition crossed, which turns a fish tank into a journey.

The route

The Guadalquivir first, then the Canaries, Patagonia, Brazil, the Philippines and the South Seas, with the species that belong to each. Ten thousand square metres and around seven thousand animals, from seahorses to hammerheads.

The deep tank

The centrepiece is nine metres deep, the deepest shark tank on the Iberian Peninsula, with bull sharks in it and a tunnel to stand under. It is the part children go back to twice.

And the things you can touch

There is a pool where you can put a hand in among the sea urchins and the starfish, which is usually where the visit stops being educational and starts being fun.

The Seville aquarium

Practical questions about the place, useful background before you travel.

Because the expedition left from this river. Five ships sailed from Seville in 1519; one came back in 1522 with eighteen men aboard, having gone round the world for the first time. The aquarium follows that route.

Nine metres, which makes it the deepest shark tank on the Iberian Peninsula. It holds bull sharks among others, and there is a tunnel through it.

One of the best. It is entirely indoors and air conditioned, and an hour and a half of it covers the worst part of a July afternoon.

The Torre del Oro and the river walk are ten minutes north, and the María Luisa park and the Plaza de España are a similar distance inland.
