Standing up on the Guadalquivir, with the city going past
Paddleboarding is easier than it looks and better than it sounds: you stand, you paddle, and within ten minutes you stop thinking about balance and start looking around. Doing it on the stretch of the Guadalquivir that runs through Seville means the Torre del Oro and the Triana bridge go past at walking pace.
Beginners and everyone else
The instructor takes the group through the basics on the bank and then goes out with it, so a first-timer and someone who has done it before can be on the same session without either being bored. The water here is flat and has no current worth the name.
What goes past
The Triana bridge from underneath, Calle Betis from the water, the Torre del Oro, the Maestranza, and upriver the Isla de la Cartuja and the Torre Sevilla. On an evening session the whole thing happens in the last hour of light.
It is a workout, but not much of one
An hour and a half, mostly gliding, with as many stops as the group wants. People fall in occasionally and nobody minds; that is what the change of clothes is for.

Frequently asked questions
About an hour and a half, including the briefing on the bank.
No. The instructor covers the basics first, and the river here is flat. Most people are standing and moving within the first ten minutes.
At C. Betis 19, on the Triana side of the river. There are changing rooms and toilets at the base.
You might, and it is not a problem: life jackets are worn, the instructor is there, and there is somewhere to change afterwards.
Twenty people at most.
Spanish, English, French, German, Italian and Arabic, depending on the session and the group.
This one is not a free cancellation: 48 hours or more before the session, 80% of the amount is refunded; less than 48 hours before, there is no refund.
Paddleboarding in Seville
Practical questions about the river, useful background before you travel.
The stretch through the city is close to ideal: it is a still arm of the river with no current and no commercial traffic, sheltered between the two banks, and it is used every day by rowers and kayakers.
Late afternoon, for the light and because the heat has gone out of the day. Midday in July and August is punishing on open water.
Boards can be hired on Calle Betis, but a first session with an instructor is worth it, if only to learn how to fall off without losing the board.
Whatever you would wear to a pool, plus something over it. Flip-flops or nothing on your feet, and sunscreen, because the water reflects.
